|Man arrested after officers injured in fail to stop RTC
A 39-year-old man has been arrested after two officers were injured in a fail to stop RTC in Wigan.
At about 6.40pm on Thursday 17 January 2008, a black ford Mondeo reversed into two officers as they were standing on Horne Grove, Worsley Mesnes. One of the officers was knocked over and the other was dragged along the road. One officer suffered a deep cut to his forehead, the other received leg and feet injuries. Both are now recovering at home from their injuries.
Information received from the public following an appeal led officers to arrest a 32 year-old woman on suspicion of assault and assisting an offender.
Further searches in Worsley Mesnes and Leigh led officers to arrest a 39-year-old man at an address in Leigh on suspicion of wounding with intent. The Mondeo car used in the incident has also been recovered.
Both remain in police custody for questioning.
Police Sergeant Peter Clarke said: "I am extremely grateful to members of the public for their help following this incident.
"I have been overwhelmed by the response from the community. It was apparent by the sheer volume of calls that they have been as shocked by this as I have.
"The two community beat officers injured will be warmed to know they are held in such high regard by the residents in the area they serve."
