|Teenager assaulted - Golborne
A teenager suffered a serious eye injury when he was viciously attacked in Golborne on New Year's Day.
At about 3am on Tuesday, 1 January 2008, the 19-year-old man was walking home along Harvey Lane with his friend. The pair were approached by a gang of four men, one of whom launched an unprovoked attack on the victim.
He suffered a serious injury to his right eye that has resulted in a partial loss of vision and also a cut to his eyelid.
Following the attack, the four men ran off down Harvey Lane, into the Haydock Racecourse and in the direction of Ashton-in-Makerfield.
The man who carried out the assault is described as white and wearing dark clothing. The other members of the gang were also wearing dark clothing but the victim was unable to provide a further description.
Police Constable Martin Burkinshaw, of Leigh Police Station, said: "This was a vicious, nasty attack on a young man who was minding his own business and walking home with a friend. There was no provocation for the attack which has left the victim with some loss of vision and badly shaken up.
"I would appeal to anyone who has information about this attack, or who may have witnessed it, to come forward as soon as possible."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Leigh Police Station on 0161 872 5050 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
