Tribute paid to stabbing victim
Darren Catherall

The family of a man who was stabbed in Wigan on Christmas Day have paid tribute to their son.

Darren Catherall, aged 40, was found lying unconscious on Thorburn Road at about 7.15pm on Tuesday, 25 December 2007.

He was taken to Wigan Royal Infirmary where he later died. A post mortem examination showed that the cause of death was loss of blood.

Darren was an unemployed father-of-six and lived on Walter Street, Wigan.

His father, Alan, said: "Darren's life was tragically cut short on Christmas Day.

"It is a sad loss and he will be missed."

A murder investigation has been launched and officers from GMP's Major Incident Team are continuing their inquiries.

Anyone who has any information about Darren's murder is asked to contact police on 0161 856 1722 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
