Cannabis seized from a raid at an address on Poolstock Lane, Wigan
A substantial amount of cannabis has been seized by police officers in Wigan following a raid in the Worsley Mesnes area.
Acting on intelligence supplied by members of the community, on Thursday 8 November 2007, Community Beat Officers from Pemberton raided a vacant house on Poolstock Lane and discovered a large-scale cannabis factory believed to have been in operation for a number of weeks.
In addition, £3,500 worth of electricity was used to illegally abstract the cannabis.
Officers are now keen to hear from anyone who has seen a woman of Oriental appearance known to have visited to the house to come forward.
Sgt Peter Clarke, Pemberton Community Beat Sergeant said: "Cannabis farms are a drain on society and I am pleased this operation was a success and helped stop the supply of drugs from getting onto our streets.
"The people using this house had taken major steps by installing a complete hydroponics system into almost every room of the house, allowing the cultivation of several dozen plants.
"The opportunity given to us to remove this criminal source of cannabis cultivation is reassuring, and I would like to thank those in the community who are supporting us in our endeavours to reduce such crime.
"Inquiries are ongoing to find those responsible and I would appeal to the community to continue to help us by providing information.
"I would encourage anyone who has seen any suspicious activity in the area to contact us in confidence on 0161 856 7188 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
