|Appeal after officer injured - Wigan
Traffic officers are appealing for witnesses after a police officer was injured while attempting to stop a car on Bryham Street, Higher Ince in the early hours of this morning, Saturday 2 December 2006.
At 4.25am officers patrolling on Manchester Road, travelling from Hindley to Wigan, saw a BMW driving erratically.
The officers began to pursue the car and indicated for the driver to stop. The car continued driving onto Schofield Lane before turning onto Bryham Street where it stopped.
One of the officers got out of the car and approached the BMW. He reached to remove the keys from the car and the driver drove off, knocking the police officer to the ground and dragging him along for a short distance. He drove past bollards blocking the end of Bryham Street and turned right onto Schofield Lane
The officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to Wigan Royal Infirmary for treatment. He has since been released from hospital.
The BMW, which had been reported stolen, was later found abandoned on Karen Street in Lower Ince.
The driver is described as white, aged in his early 30s with short fair hair. He was unshaven and had thin features.
