|It’s a bright festive Christmas in Golborne
Golborne will be full of Christmas cheer this year.
The fun starts at 6pm on Thursday 30th November with the traditional switch on of the lights on the large Christmas tree in Peter Kane Square.
This will be followed by carol singing on the square with Golborne Brass Band playing a selection of favourite carols, while refreshments will be served at Heath Street Methodist Church.
Township manager Andrew Sharrock said: “Father Christmas has even said he’s coming to join in the fun, so why not come along and get in the festive spirit?”
The fun continues on Saturday 9th December between 11.00 a.m and 4.00 p.m. on Golborne ASDA car park. Under a large heated marquee you can do some Christmas shopping at the stalls or enjoy free entertainment provided by Golborne Youth Band, Golborne Morris Dancers, a children entertainer, a storyteller and the Anvil Street drummers.
You can also indulge yourself with hot potatoes, roast chestnuts, black peas, soups and beverages.
The Christmas festive activities have been planned, organised and funded by the community forum, local ward councillors Ged Bretherton, Peter Franzen and Kevin Williams, Wigan Council staff from the township programme and town centre managent, and Golborne’s ASDA store.
