Woman in 70s killed in road traffic collsion - Hindley

A woman in her 70s has died following a road traffic collision in Hindley, this morning, Thursday 26 October 2006.

Just after 7.45am police were called to Castle Hill Road following reports that a car had been in collision with a pedestrian.

Officers went to the scene where they found a Hyundai Accent had been in collision with a woman in her 70s as she was crossing the road.

The woman, who it is believed lived locally, suffered serious head injuries during the incident. She was taken to Wigan Royal Hospital by ambulance for treatment, but later died from her injuries.

Castle Hill Road has been closed at its junctions with Lancaster Road and Sandy Lane for at least the next hour. Officers would advise people to use an alternative route where possible.
