Armed robbery at Garage - Standish
Thursday 19th October, 2006

Police in Wigan are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery at the Total Garage on School Lane in Standish on Wednesday 18 October 2006.

Shortly after 8pm two men wearing dark coloured clothing approached the service station on foot from the back and walked onto the forecourt. One of the men then entered the shop and walked towards the till area. The second man remained at the door.

The first offender then jumped over the counter and threatened a member of staff with a knife, demanding he open the till.

Fearing for his safety the man did this and handed over a quantity of cash. Both offenders then left the shop and ran away.

The first man is described as white, 18-24 years old, approximately 6'1'' tall and spoke with a Liverpool accent. The second man was also described as white, 18-24 years old, approximately 5'8'' tall and of medium build and spoke with an Irish accent. Both were wearing black clothing, baseball caps and had scarves covering the bottom of their faces.

Police are appealing to anyone with any further information on this incident to contact Leigh CID on 0161 856 5307 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
