Hindley Pool to open in January
Thursday 20th December, 2018

A date has been set for Hindley Pool to open its doors to residents.

It’s been announced today the swimming pool will provisionally open on Monday 21st January 2019 for casual swimming, followed by full opening on the 28th January.

And it is good news for people who had swimming lessons booked in before the pool closed with the council revealing they will honour all previous bookings from parents, carers or schools.

The pool was legally transferred back to Wigan Council in September and it was revealed charitable trust Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles would manage it.

With the trust already managing most of the council’s leisure services it meant they were ready to move in and officers have been working round the clock to get the pool open.

Significant investment has been put into the facility to improve it and to ensure it is safe and clean for residents.

The pool and pool surrounds have been deep cleaned alongside the renewal of inlet pipework to enhance the water quality. Major repairs to the air handling unit have been undertaken to provide a consistent heat source into the pool halls and essential electrical remedial work has been carried out. Cosmetic improvements to the reception area and corridors have also been completed in readiness for the reopening.

The exterior of the building has also been improved and new signs installed.

Leader of the council, Cllr David Molyneux, said: “It will be fantastic to see the pool open again for residents. We know they are keen to get back into the facility and thank them for their patience while the work is completed.

“As part of The Deal, we’re committed to supporting people to live healthier, happier lives and the pool will add to the wonderful leisure offer we have in the borough.”

Managing Healthy Lifestyles Managing Director, Pete Burt said: “We are pleased to have been able to take on Hindley Pool and are eager to see its reopening following essential works. We thank everyone who uses Hindley Pool and appreciate their continued understanding and patience.

“Over the closer time we have been able to accommodate Hindley Swimming Club at Howe Bridge pool, but it will be great to see them back in their home water.”

All previous bookings by schools, parents and clubs will be honoured. This offer will cover the remaining time/number of any lessons/classes or pool hire to the value of what is outstanding on your booking. This will be a like for like offer and proof of purchase must be provided.
