|New bin calendars available ahead of collection changes
Bin calendars for the next two years are now being delivered to residents of Wigan Borough.
The new calendars will start from Monday 25th September when new collections are introduced and every household should receive a calendar before then.
From this date households will get a green bin collection every two weeks and a blue, black and brown collection every three weeks.
Some households may also have a change in collection day.
Residents are being reminded to follow their current calendar until that date and put their bin out for collection as normal.
Every household in the borough should receive a printed calendar through the post and it will also be available to view online at www.wigan.gov.uk/recycling
There is also information on the council’s website about what item goes in which bin and where residents can find their closest recycling centre.
The council is reminding residents to make sure they have all four bins – black, blue, brown and green - and are recycling correctly so they can easily adapt to the changes.
Councillor Kevin Anderson, cabinet member for the environment at Wigan Council, said: “We want to thank residents for recycling more, recycling right and for doing their part of The Deal.
“We understand it may take some time for the new collections to bed in and so we’ll be flexible for the next few months while people are getting used to the changes.
“There is lots of support and information available about recycling on our website and at libraries and life centres.
“Every household should now have a booklet which outlines the new collections and reminds them of what goes in which bin.
“These changes will help us to save £2m each year and will keep your council tax low.”
