|Chance to showcase your blooming good garden
Forget Chelsea, this year it’s all about showcasing Wigan Borough’s gardens in the first borough-wide annual gardening competition.
Applications for the In Bloom competition are now open with six titles up for grabs, including ‘Best Individual Garden’ and ‘Best Communal/Community Garden’.
In previous years the competition has just been for housing tenants but is now being opened up to all residents to showcase the variety of gardens across the borough as part of The Deal.
Green-fingered residents who have a garden, allotment plot or neighbourhood to be proud of are being encouraged to enter.
Residents can also nominate a neighbour or friend with their permission.
The closing date for entries is 12noon on Monday 3rd July.
Shortlisted entries will be informed before judging on 17th July.
Last year the borough triumphed at the national In Bloom awards after being awarded a gold medal.
Councillor Chris Ready, cabinet member for communities, said: “I’m really looking forward to seeing the entries. Last year we had such a brilliant result with the In Bloom judging and I know our communities will be going for gold again. Let’s make Wigan Borough a beautiful place this summer.”

Applications can be entered with photos but it isn’t compulsory.
