|Love your local Wigan Borough market!
Shoppers can enjoy specialist craft markets, street theatre, face painting and magic as part of a special fortnight which shines a spotlight on local markets.
Wigan, Leigh and Ashton Markets are all taking part in ‘Love Your Local Market Fortnight’ with entertainment and discounts on offer for shoppers.
Traders are urging shoppers who have not been to their local market for a while to come down throughout the fortnight and see what’s on offer.
The wide offer of fresh fruit and veg, meat, cheese, bakeries and lots of other food stalls mean the borough’s markets are ideally placed for shoppers wanting fresh food.
Wigan Borough’s markets also pride themselves on a friendly welcome and personal and helpful service.
They also have high quality service stalls including hairdressers, key cutting, and electrical products as well as hot food and friendly welcoming cafés.
The fortnight is being supported by Wigan Council which, as part of The Deal, is supporting the local economy to grow and encourages people to shop local.
Events taking place throughout the fortnight, which runs from Wednesday 17 May to Wednesday 31 May, include:
At Wigan Market face painting, a French stall with Wigan’s twin town Angers, street theatre with the Dinner Ladies, a pop-up craft market and stall for young people from Wigan Youth Zone.
At Leigh Market there will be a pop-up craft market, face painting, discount offers from traders and the opportunity to win Leigh Centurion family tickets.
Ashton Market will feature entertainment from the Great Diamondo, face painting and a pop-up craft market.
Glenn Furnival who runs the Fish Man of Leigh stall in Leigh Market, said: “We are proud to support Love Your Local Market and are always keen to welcome new customers to the market.
“We offer value for money as well as high quality produce so if you have not been before come down to the market and take a look at what we have to offer!”
Homes around the Leigh area will also be receiving discount coupons through their doors and the opportunity to win a family ticket for the Leigh Centurions.
