A Wigan restaurant is helping to support local swimmers taking part in Wigan Swimming Club’s Sponsored Swim 2015 by opening an hour earlier on the 11th July so athletes can get a pre-swim caffeine boost.
The club’s sponsored swim will be taking place at the Wigan Life Centre from 1pm until 4pm on Saturday 11th July where participants, as part of mixed ability relay teams, will attempt to swim the distance from Manchester to Liverpool.
Pesto Italian restaurant on Appley Lane North in Appley Bridge will open at 11am instead of its usual midday opening that day so that those taking part will be able to drop in to buy a coffee ahead of the race or even get a coffee to go.
General manager of Pesto Javier Mellado comments: “Coffee has been recommended for swimmers before big races for years and it has been proven that just two cups of strong coffee before exercising can help improve performance.
“We wanted to help support those taking part in this exhausting 34 mile challenge by opening our doors early on swim day so participants have plenty of time to drop in and enjoy a strong Italian coffee hit before their tiring fundraising efforts.”
This event has been organised to help raise funds for the Wigan Swimming Club which is considered one of the UK’s most renowned swimming clubs after training many of the country’s most famous swimmers, including former Olympic medallist June Croft.
These funds will help the ‘Wasps’, as they’re known locally, keep membership fees as low as possible which will ultimately help encourage more people to get involved with swimming.
