Outdoor concerts planned for jazz festival
Thursday 18th June, 2015

THERE’LL be music in the air this summer as a series of bands play free outdoor concerts during Wigan International Jazz Festival.

Wigan Schools Swing Band and Wigan Youth Big Band, both directed by Andy Morel, will be performing for shoppers in the town centre on Saturday 11 July from 11am.

And visitors to Mesnes Park can enjoy music from the Swing Shift Big Band, directed by Phil Shotton, at 1pm on Sunday 12 July.

Ian Darrington, Festival Director, said: “It’s really important for us that we put these outdoor concerts on the programme as we’ve always been committed to bringing jazz to as many people as possible. So, if you’re out and about in Wigan during the weekend of the festival, take advantage of these fantastic bands.”

Other highlights of this year’s festival, sponsored by Manchester Airport and supported by WLCT and Wigan Council, include Andy Prior’s tribute to Frank Sinatra, the Alan Barnes Quintet and the Simon Read Octet, plus the Wigan Jazz Club Reunion Big Band and Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra, all taking place at Robin Park Indoor Sports Centre.

Tickets for these concerts and more are on sale now. Visit wiganjazz.net, call 01942 828 271 or visit Haigh Country Park.
