Wednesday 3rd June, 2015

Helping Greater Manchester Policeís staff live healthy lifestyles has led to an award for the public health team at Wigan Council.

They were handed a Divisional Commanderís Award from the force to recognise the enthusiasm, support and professionalism after delivering a series of wellbeing seminars to the Wigan divisional staff.

Among the topics the team covered with officers and support staff at the police were mental wellbeing, alcohol, smoking, early detection and screening for cancer along with the councilís own Heart of Wigan campaign encouraging people to look after their hearts more.

And afterwards they were also given more information on some of the services available from the council including Lose Weight, Feel Great.

Professor Kate Ardern, director of public health at Wigan Council, said: ďIím so proud of the team and their hard work which has been rewarded with this accolade. As part of the Deal, weíre encouraging all people across the borough to be healthy, be active and to become Community Health Champions and Iím delighted that this has been embraced by Greater Manchester Police. Iím most grateful to Chief Superintendent Donnellan and his officers for their fantastic effort to support health improvement in the borough.Ē

Chief Superintendent Shaun Donnellan from Greater Manchester Police added: ďI am pleased to award this and I am very grateful for the work done by the team because it has actually saved lives. All because of the teamís thought provoking impact and honesty, it has changed lives.Ē
