|Neighbourhood Plan hope for Abram
The first steps are being taken to give the people of Abram more of a say in the development of their area.
Abram Ward Community Cooperative hopes to create a Neighbourhood Plan, as Abram Ward Neighbourhood Forum, to set out planning policies for the future of Abram, within the established local plan core strategy.
The group will engage with residents and businesses throughout the process to help shape the plan.
The plan will then come into force after a public examination and local referendum. If more than 50% vote ‘yes’ the neighbourhood plan will be adopted.
Councillor David Molyneux, Wigan Council’s executive member for regeneration, said: “These proposals come from the people of Abram who want to be more engaged with the planning process.
“Creating a neighbourhood plan plays a crucial role in giving local people the chance to influence how their local area should develop.
“The council is committed to empowering local communities to help shape the future of their areas.”
Views from local people are needed before Wigan Council decides whether to grant Neighbourhood Area and Neighbourhood Forum status.
The proposed Neighbourhood Area includes Abram, Platt Bridge, Bamfurlong, Bickershaw and Spring View, with the exception of the Chatsworth Fold estate.
