Elderly woman dragged to ground by bag thief
Friday 8th May, 2015

An elderly woman was dragged to the floor and had her handbag snatched in Wigan.

At around 5.30pm on Tuesday 5 May 2015, the 82-year-old woman was walking on Lancaster Road, Hindley when she was approached from behind by a man.

He lunged at her, grabbing her bag. There was a struggle and she was dragged to the floor before he took the bag and made off towards Gloucester Crescent.

He is described as being white, in his late teens/early 20s, of medium/athletic build, had short brown hair, was clean shaven, wore dark shorts, vest and trainers.

Detective Constable Danny Ritchie said: “This man has sought out an elderly victim as she has been seen as an easy target. He has also proved how much of a coward he is by approaching his victim from behind and knocking her to the floor.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the crime and saw what happened, to contact us immediately. We are determined to catch this man but need the public’s help in doing so.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 7255, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
