Woman's handbag containing hearing aids worth £7,000 stolen

Woman's handbag containing hearing aids worth £7,000 stolen
Man wanted following bag theft

A bag containing expensive hearing aids was stolen from a Wigan nightclub.

At about 1.30am on Saturday 9 August 2014, the victim, 54, was in Reflex on King Street, when she left her handbag with friends for a short time.

Her friends inadvertently moved away, leaving the bag unattended and it was quickly stolen by a man, who was caught on CCTV taking it into the toilets before leaving with a carrier bag.

Inside the woman’s bag were her hearing aids worth approximately £7,000.

Detectives have released an image of a man they are keen to talk to and are urging for the devices to be returned above all else.

Detective Sergeant Graham Clare, said: “This was clearly an opportunistic theft and the offender could have had no idea that the contents of the bag hold such personal and monetary value to the victim.

“It is difficult to convey in words the significance the hearing aids have for the victim in her day to day life and above all else we are keen for them to be returned to her.

“Seven thousand pounds is an awful lot of money in anyone’s book so if we can prevent the woman from having to pay for new ones that would be extremely satisfying.

“If you have them in your possession or know where they might be please call us.

“We are also keen to speak to the man featured in the CCTV image. If you know who he is or if you recognise yourself, please contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 7124 or Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
