|Libraries join campaign to support patients

LIBRARIES in the borough have joined a campaign to support patients at Wigan Infirmary’s Coronary Care Unit.
Ashton Library is already backing the Rotary Club of Ashton-in-Makerfield with Haydock’s hospital wash bag project, which collects items including toothbrushes and tissues that can be donated for the benefit of people admitted to the centre in an emergency.
Now, Shevington Library, Standish Library and Hope Community Library have joined the scheme as sites where residents can leave their donations.
Kim Collins of WLCT, which manages libraries across the borough on behalf of Wigan Council, said: “We are pleased to support this campaign to support patients, and would encourage anyone visiting the library to consider making a donation. These items don’t cost a lot but can help make a difference to the comfort of people who are taken into hospital suddenly.”
Vivienne Clancy, of the Rotary Club of Ashton-in-Makerfield with Haydock, said: “People can drop off anything from toothbrushes to tubes of mini toothpaste, face cloths, unperfumed soap, tissues or combs. We’ve already delivered our first consignment of 100 wash bags to the hospital and hope that this is just the start of an ongoing project to help patients.”
