|Nominate your local sporting champions
NOMINATIONS are now open for the prestigious 14th annual Wigan Borough Sports Awards.
The event, organised by leisure provider WLCT, rewards and recognises the work of voluntary sector coaches, clubs and volunteers, as well as celebrating the achievements of local athletes. This year the ceremony will take place at the DW Stadium on Friday 12 September.
Adam Blezard, of WLCT, said: “This is your chance to nominate those individuals and clubs who are making a real difference within Wigan borough, whether it’s through an outstanding achievement or an exceptional commitment to supporting our upcoming sporting stars.”
Cllr Paul Kenny, Cabinet member for Resources, said: “It’s really important that we support and celebrate our homegrown sporting talent and the Wigan Borough Sports Awards puts the spotlight on all the great work that is going on at grassroots level.”
Nominations can be made in the following categories:
- Coach of the Year
- Club of the Year
- Sports Achiever of the Year
- Disabled Sports Achiever of the Year
- Volunteer of the Year
- The Wilf Brogan Unsung Hero Award
- Changing Lifestyle Recognition Award
- Team of the Year Award
- The Martin Lynn Special Contribution to School Sport Award
Nominations should reflect achievements between September 2013 and the closing date of Friday 4 July.
Category winners go forward to represent Wigan Borough at the Greater Manchester Sports Awards on Friday 7 November at The Point, Emirates Old Trafford.
