|Elderly members of staff were threatened in an armed robbery
Two elderly members of staff were threatened in an armed robbery in Wigan.
At 7.10pm on Tuesday 18 March 2014, two men armed with knives went into Wilkinson newsagents on Ormskirk Road.
One of the men approached an elderly staff member and attempted to push past him to get behind the counter. He then produced a large knife with a 12 inch blade and shouted: “get out of the way right.”
The other man then jumped over the counter and grabbed cigarettes from the display, putting them into a carrier bag.
The second member of staff tried to pull the offender away but the other offender pushed the man into the counter. One of the members of staff shouted, which disturbed the offender, who then fled the shop and ran off in an unknown direction.
One of the offenders is described as white, 5ft11in tall and of slim build. He is aged between 25 and 30 and has a Wigan accent. He has short dark hair with a slight fringe, dark brown eyebrows and a pale complexion. He was wearing a black outdoor jacket with dark coloured bottoms and a black balaclava.
The second is described as white, 6ft1in tall and of slim build and was wearing dark clothes.
Detective Sergeant Nigel Rigby from Wigan division said: “These men made threats towards two elderly members of staff and got away with over a hundred pounds worth of cigarettes.
"I would urge anyone who may know who is responsible for this robbery or who may have seen two men acting suspiciously in the area to contact police immediately.”
