|Four-star service from Wigan Council's website
Wigan Council's website has scored four-stars in an independent survey following a major overhaul.
The site was transformed last year and the new look has seen it get top marks in a national poll of local government websites.
The annual survey is carried out by the Society of Information Management (SOCITM) which tests the sites of 453 councils. Wigan Council's website was awarded the highest score of four stars.
Websites are judged on ease of use and compatibility with mobile devices.
Wigan Council also made it into the top 20 best developed sites and was included in the best metropolitan district website list.
SOCITM said Wigan Council's website is "clearly presented and well written in such a simple, easy-to-read style. Navigation generally was excellent and it was very easy getting to the information we needed. With a good mobile experience and quality content this website was a breeze to use."
Councillor Terry Halliwell, Wigan Council cabinet member for customer transformation, said: "To jump from a two-star rated website to four-star in the space of 12 months just shows how committed Wigan Council is to improving its online services. As part of The Deal, we are encouraging residents to get online so they don't have to ring us or make a visit to one of our buildings."
