|Honey I've Shrunk the Goalie
You have got to hand it to young goalkeeper Ben Stanier-normally he’d be tipping this penalty shot round the post.
But you don’t need goalmouth technology to see when this ball has crossed the line.
Young Ben,10, of Kenford Drive,Winstanley, who normally plays for Junior Latics, was brought in by “ball boys” Rosetta Brands of Preston to test the amazing inflatable’s aero dynamics a bit closer to his home - in the goalmouth at the DW stadium in Wigan.
The giant six foot soccer balls will be bouncing around on the beaches of Brazil during this summer’s World Cup tournament when they are predicted to be a best seller with thousands of footie fans.
“It’s a real monster”, said Ben, a pupil at St Aidan’s Primary school,Wigan.“But it’s still got a vicious swerve on it .You might need a bigger set of gloves to stop it.”
Ben, who says he’s a big fan of Latics goalie Ali Al Habsi and colleague Emerson Boyce, is the first youngster in Britain to test out the mighty blow-up football.
Nick Comer Managing Director of Rosetta is marketing the giant World Cup footballs in the UK and Europe for manufacturers Big Mouth Toys of America - one of the biggest suppliers of novelty gift products in the world who shipped the huge football over from their headquarters in Glastonbury in the United States.
“It’s a fun product which we are sure will be a big hit with soccer fans all over the world and will soon be popping up everywhere”, said Nick. “One thing is for sure – the ref won’t ever miss it and neither will anyone doing a spot-the-ball competition!”
