Staff threatened with syringe
Wednesday 19th February, 2014

A man threatened a staff member with a syringe during a robbery in Wigan.

At around 12.20pm on Friday 24 January 2014, the man walked into a convenience store on Ince Green Lane and picked up two bottles of spirits.

He attempted to pay for them with a card that was cut in half. When he was told he could not use the card, the man took a syringe out of his pocket and held it to the workers face.

The man then grabbed a bottle of Jack Daniels and Absolut Vodka from behind the counter and ran out along Lord Street.

He is described as being white, in his early 20s, of slim build, wore a dark baseball cap, black jacket and black tracksuit bottoms.

Police Constable Sean Robinson said: “This man had the audacity to try to pay for goods with an invalid card and when he was refused, threatened the staff member.

“Fearing for her safety and not sure whether the syringe contained anything, she ran out of the shop. Thankfully, she was not physically hurt.

“I would ask anyone who may have seen this man running out of the shop and along Lord Street to call us.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 101 quoting crime number 012086C/14 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
