|Ahoy me hearties! Pirate theme for CAMRA Beer Festival 2014
ONE of the biggest real ale festivals in the north of England will mark the start of the Wigan Food and Drink Festival 2014.
The 27th Wigan CAMRA Beer Festival once again comes to Robin Park Indoor Sports Centre on Thursday 27 February for three days of ale-swishing enjoyment.
Ken Worthington, Vice Chair of Wigan CAMRA, said: “We have achieved record numbers of visitors in recent years. In 2013, 4500 people enjoyed the huge variety of beers and fantastic atmosphere that our event is famous for.
“The 2014 Festival hopes to break attendance records again with over 60 real ales, 35 real ciders and perries and draught foreign beers on offer. Plus live music each day and great food.
“This year the festival is taking on a pirate theme. There will be special themed promotions and we hope that everyone will get into the spirit and dress up as pirates when attending the Saturday session!”
The festival marks the start of the 7th Wigan Food and Drink Festival, which offers 11 days of entertainment. The 2013 programme – sponsored by Euromark, celebrates ‘beer and baking’ and welcomes Wigan born - Great British Bake Off winner John Waite and ex-Coronation and now celebrity chef and cheese maker – Sean Wilson.
Keith Bergman, Food and Drink Festival organiser, said: “It looks set to be another fantastic year. We’ve got a mouth watering programme of events starting as always with CAMRA’s fantastic and ever popular beer fest. There is no better way to launch the Food and Drink Festival’.
A free courtesy bus will be running to and from the Anvil Pub in Wigan town centre during the CAMRA Beer Festival. For more details please visit www.wigancamra.org.uk
