Armed robbers threatened staff during a robbery in Norley Hall
Sunday 12th January, 2014

Police in Wigan are hunting two men who threatened shop staff and customers during an armed robbery in Norley Hall.

It happened at around 9.15pm on Monday 6 January 2014, at the Co-op on Norley Hall Avenue.

Two men waited at the side of the Cabbage Patch store nearby for some time before approaching the Co-op convenience store.

The two men, who were wearing hooded tops and using clothing to mask their faces, approached the store together before one entered leaving the other to hold the door open.

The robber threatened staff and customers with a knife and they both escaped with cash in the direction of Trent Road.

No-one was injured in the incident.

During that time it is believed they may have spoken to at least one member of the public and were seen by other passers by.

The offender who was holding the knife is described as white, about 5ft 6in tall, with a slim build and wearing a dark hoody. The knife, which was between 9in -12in long had a serrated edge.

His accomplice was white of similar build and wore similar clothing.

DC Paul Catterall, based at Wigan, said: "These robbers clearly spent time watching the Co-op store so they could pick the best time to strike.

“Thankfully no staff or customers were hurt but you can imagine they were upset by their ordeal.

"I now want to hear from anyone who saw two men waiting or acting suspiciously around the area that evening."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 7124 or Crimestoppers on 0800 55 111.
