Robber with bad teeth assaults woman
Monday 11th November, 2013

A rotten-toothed robber punched a woman in the face three times while attempting to steal her purse.

The 37-year-old victim was punched so hard that she blacked out during the attack that occurred on Norwood Avenue, Beech Hill.

Between 11.30am and 12.30pm on Saturday 9 November 2013, she was walking down Norwood Avenue, Beech Hill, when she saw the offender walking directly towards her.

He then stopped, blocked her way and shouted at her to hand her purse over. Before she could react he then hit her on the head.

In self-defence she then shoved him in the chest but he hit her to the head again, this time even harder.

She then briefly lost consciousness while the offender ran off.

The victim was attended to by paramedics and was taken to hospital. Luckily she has only suffered minor injuries.

The robber was described as white, about 5ft 8in tall, around 30-years-old with rotten, yellow teeth. He was wearing a dark blue tracksuit and blue jeans.

Detective Constable Sheena Maerevoet, based at Wigan West INPT, said: “While the motive for this attack was clearly robbery, the ferocity of the attack was way beyond what was necessary to take her purse.

“She was knocked unconscious and came too to discover that, bizarrely, he hadn’t taken her purse. Given the force of the assault she is extremely lucky not to be more seriously injured.

“She did briefly black out but she managed to give a really detailed description which included his distinctive rotten, yellow teeth. I am confident that someone will recognise this description.

If so, please call police in Wigan and help us bring this man into custody.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
