Police are hunting a man from Wigan who is wanted for assault
Monday 14th October, 2013

Police are hunting a man from Wigan who is wanted for assault.

Robert Gordon Smith (born 15/08/72) from Wigan is wanted in connection with a section 18 assault and breach of restraining order.

Between 10.15pm and 10.30pm on Friday 23 August 2013 a 22-year-old man left The Oak pub on Belle Green Lane in Higher Ince where he was approached by two men.

The two men told him a friend was looking for him and he walked in an address on Belle Green Lane, he was approached by a man inside who attacked him with a knife.

Smith has connections in Wigan, Hindley and Bolton areas of Greater Manchester.

Detective Sergeant Paul Jackson from Wigan division said: “Officers have been out looking for Smith but he is trying to evade capture. If anyone knows where he is, or has seen him in the last few days, please get in touch with us and tell us what you know.

“I would also like to issue a warning to anyone that may be helping Smith to hide from police - it is not worth it as we will look to prosecute anyone found to be harbouring or assisting an offender.”

Anyone with information as to Smith's whereabouts is asked to contact police on 0161 856 5306 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
