Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed in Wigan
Monday 30th September, 2013

It happened at about 10.45pm on Saturday 28 September 2013 when the 24-year-old was on Kingsley Ave in Worsley Mesnes.

He was approached by a man who attacked him with a weapon, described by witnesses as a large kitchen knife.
He was taken to hospital for treatment for wounds to his head and body. His injuries are not life threatening.

The offender is described as a man, aged in his 30's or 40's, of slim to medium build with short light coloured hair wearing dark clothing. He was riding a mountain bike.

Detective Sergeant Derek Thomas based at Wigan Police Station said: “We believe the attack was targeted.

“It may have been related to a disturbance that occurred in the same street about 15 minutes earlier. This will form part of our investigation and enquiries are continuing.

"This was a violent attack that has left a man with serious injuries and in a lot of pain. We are relying on members of the public who may have seen what happened to come forward.

“If you were in or around the area at the time and believe you may have witnessed the incident, please contact police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
