A sports-loving community pub in Standish pocketed the £1,000 prize in the grand final of the Marston's Pool Challenge Cup 2013 last weekend. The Black Bull hotel on Market Street had its pool teams out in full force as it went head to head with the Locomotive 'C' team from Stoke on Trent in the last nail-biting decider.

Held at the Ladybrook Hotel in Mansfield on Saturday 14th September, the last 16 sides from a starting total of 251 teams from across the UK battled it out with their cues all day. Team captain Carl Bromley was thrilled to finally lift the winner's cup and scoop the prize money.

Amelia Cree, marketing services manager from Marston's helped coordinate the tournament, which began in May, with initial rounds being played at various venues across the country. She said, “It is great to see that traditional pub sports like pool are alive and kicking. The matches have attracted a great deal of interest in the participating pubs. We congratulate the Black Bull 'A' team and all the teams at last weekend's grand finale.”

The Marston's Pool Challenge Cup is open to all tenanted and free trade customers of Marston's. There are cash prizes for the final 16 teams in the tournament - all finalists leave with a prize.

The Black Bull hotel is an attractive mansion building in the heart of Standish, just off the High Street. This popular community pub offers a relaxed atmosphere and warm and friendly service.
