|Events offer chance to tour heritage landmarks
A VARIETY of activities take place in Wigan and Leigh this week to celebrate national Heritage Open Days (12-15 September).
Heritage Open Days celebrate Englandís architecture and culture by offering free access to places that are usually closed to the public.
Itís a once-a-year chance to discover architectural treasures and enjoy a wide range of tours, events and activities that bring local history and culture to life.
Why not head along to the Museum of Wigan Life, in Library Street, on Thursday (12 September) at 10.30am and enjoy a free tour of the building? A childrenís heritage trail will also be available for visitors from 11am-3pm on Saturday (14 September).
Entertainment also takes place at the Civic Square in Leigh on Saturday (14 September) from 10.30am-3pm. Leigh for Allís Roll Up Roll Up event offers activities for history lovers of all ages, including tours of the Town Hall and Parish Church. There will also be a rugby league talk by Geoff Lee, a family and local history fair, a vintage car rally and special visitor Peppa Pig.
These events have been co-ordinated by WLCT, which manages arts, heritage and library events on behalf of Wigan Council and partners including the Leigh for All Working Group.
