Armed robbery at discount store

Two thieves burst into a discount store in Wigan armed with a kitchen knife.

It happened at about 6.40pm on Friday 19 July 2013 at a discount store in Whelley when two thieves approached the shop.

One of the offenders stood at the door while the other the two women working behind the counter with a knife, he forced them to open the till.

He reached into the till and stole the cash inside. Both offenders ran out of the store along Sole Street.

The first offender is described as a white man, between 5ft 10in and 6ft tall and of large build. He wore a grey tracksuit with his hood and face covered with a scarf.

The second is described as a white man, about 6ft tall with a heavy build. He wore a grey hooded top with the hood up and carried a large kitchen knife.

Detective Constable Danny Ritchie from Wigan division, said: "Thankfully no one was injured, but the shop assistants have been left traumatised by the robbery.

"I am appealing to anyone who has information about this robbery to come forward.

"In particular, I want to hear from anyone who either witnessed the robbery itself or saw these two men acting suspiciously before or after the incident."
