|Step back in time for summer fun
YOUNG visitors to Mesnes Park are invited to enjoy a day of Victorian entertainment on Tuesday (23 July).
The Museum of Wigan Life starts its summer holiday programme by holding the High Days and Holidays event in the park from 10.30am-2.30pm.
Lynda Jackson, Community History Manager at the museum, said: “There will be a Punch and Judy show, Victorian games and the chance to make windmills and holiday decorations. It’s a great way of entertaining children during the school holidays whilst also teaching them about what life was like over 100 years ago.”
The museum is also hosting regular events at its base, on Library Street, over the summer. A junk modelling session takes place every Tuesday between 1pm-2.30pm. Children will have the chance to transform old cans and cardboard boxes into junk sculptures, and there will be a different theme each week!
All the Fun of the Fair gives children the chance to play Victorian games including hoopla, tin can alley and Hook-a-Duck. These sessions take place at the museum every Thursday from 1pm-2.30pm.
Both sessions are suitable for children aged four-11 and cost £2.50 per child. Booking is recommended. Call the museum on 01942 828 128.
