|The Galleries Teccy up the Rainbow Ward!
Richard Paxton presenting the iPads to Hospital Play Specialist, Janine Stott and Rainbow Ward patients
The Galleries Shopping Centre has donated two iPads to the Rainbow Ward at Wigan Hospital.
The iPads will be used and enjoyed by children in the ward whilst waiting for treatment.
The iPads will be used alongside children’s reading books which are used to distract the patient from their imminent procedure. Rainbow Ward staff also use a series of photos to prepare children for treatment explaining in detail the procedure they are about to undergo, with the aim of reducing fear and anxiety. Various games and images will be shown on the iPads adding a fun, modern, interactive touch to the ward and its mini patients.
Richard Paxton, centre director of The Galleries commented "The Galleries are keen supporters of the Rainbow Ward and are delighted to help make the little ones hospital stay a little more bearable with the purchase of these gleaming new, high tech iPads.”
The Galleries have supported the rainbow ward with the hugely popular Easter Egg appeal which saw hundreds of generous shoppers donated chocolate eggs for the children on the ward to enjoy. The centre also raised a new initiative – a Toy Appeal inviting shoppers to donate new toys for children to enjoy on the ward.
The Rainbow Ward in Wigan Hospital is a general pediatric ward and has a mixture of beds and cubicles and is also the children's emergency and long stay admission ward which is built around the playroom. The ward has children attending for a variety of medical procedures and reviews.
