Failed attempt to steal ATM - WIgan
Thursday 4th July, 2013

Thieves were unsuccessful in their bid to prise a cash machine from outside a petrol station in Wigan.

Sometime between 12am and 12.55am on Tuesday 2 July 2013, the offenders approached the ATM on Ormskirk Road, and tried to tie a cable between it and the van they were driving, a white Ford Transit (registration YC57XRG).

When they failed to pull the machine away, the offenders drove off.

A dark hatchback also appeared to be driving in tandem with the van.

Detective Constable Danny Ritchie said: "These thieves thought it could be as simple as towing a cash machine away to steal money, but the ATM machines in question are very secure

"Nevertheless, we are doing all we can to find the offenders and would urge anyone with any information to call us."

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 5307 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
