|Focus on disability at information day
Information and advice about services for people with disabilities, their families and carers will be on offer at a free event Pennington Flash Country Park on Saturday 29th June.
Families are being encouraged to come along and enjoy the Independent Living Family day, where a host of activities, entertainment and refreshments will run alongside the stands providing information on social and leisure opportunities, support groups, care provision, and specialist equipment.
Wigan and Leigh Disability Partnership is working in partnership with APEX Health and Social Care on the free event, to promote the services and opportunities that are available to the people of Wigan and Leigh. Around 50 organisations will be attending the event, with the Wish FM roadshow and Haigh birds of prey promising to keep people entertained.
Team Leader at the Wigan and Leigh Disability Partnership, Marian Milling, said: “There are many organisations and groups across Wigan Borough doing some wonderful work around various aspects of disability, health and wellbeing, but they are not necessarily widely known about. We wanted to bring all of these organisations together in a really informal setting, so people with disabilities, their families and carers can come along and have a chat to them and find out more.
“I’m delighted at the take-up we have had from people wanting to come and promote what they do. I think this shows just how much there is going on in the borough to support people with a disability, and those involved in their care. We really want people to come along, meet like-minded people, enjoy the day and leave with some useful advice and information.”
The event will run from 11am to 4pm at Pennington Flash Country Park. Ample pay and display car parking is available and entry to the event is free.
