Wigan Council Deputy Leader Cllr David Molyneux and retail officer Tony Fletcher.
Ever wanted to run your own market stall but not had the support to make it happen? Now could be the time to take the opportunity to set up stall on Wigan outdoor market thanks to a new initiative launching during the national ‘Love Your Local Market’ campaign this month.
Wigan Council is working with local community partnership, Hindley Market Limited, to offer discounted stalls and free retail training to new traders on Wigan outdoor market, for a limited time.
The Wigan outdoor market scheme will run between 15 -18 May and 22 – 25 May. To benefit from the scheme, people need to register with Hindley Market Group, which has been set up by two local entrepreneurs, Alison Thorpe and Sharon Sargent. They are planning to reinvigorate Hindley market later in the year, but are working with the council to get new traders up and running during the national ‘Love Your Local Market’ 2013 campaign.
A variety of stalls, new businesses and local community groups have already registered to take part during May’s event. Visitors to the market can expect to see gifts, homewares, cakes, chocolates, pancakes, handmade wooden items, handmade jewellery, cards, hair and make-up products, candles, handcrafted soaps, locally grown produce, free range eggs, speciality meats, garden stalls, babywares, clothing, face painting and entertainment
After the ‘Love Your Local Market’ 2013 campaign, there is an option for stall holders and new business to continue trading on Wigan outdoor market, with a rent reduction for the first three months.
