Robbery - Ashton in Makerfield
Friday 22nd March, 2013

Armed robbers stole cash from a betting shop in Ashton-in-Makerfield.

At around 7.30pm on Monday 18 March 2013, two men went into a BetFred shop
on Bryn Road. One was carrying a machete, and the other was carrying a
hammer.

They shouted at a customer to get down on the floor before jumping over the
counter. They then told staff to fill a black sports bag with cash. They
left the shop with the cash and drove away in a vehicle which was waiting
nearby.

Both men are described as white and about 5ft 9in tall. One man is
described as being medium build and aged in his 20s. He was wearing a black
balaclava, a black zipped up hooded top, grey tracksuit bottoms and Adidas
trainers. The second man is described as slim and was also wearing a black
balaclava.

Police are appealing for information and witnesses.

Detective Sergeant Peter Carletti said: "Whilst no one was hurt, there were
a number of customers and staff members who were left shaken by this
incident.

"This is a busy road and there would have been lots of passing cars at this
time in the evening. If you saw two men matching these descriptions leaving
the BetFred shop or have any information about the robbery please get in
touch."

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers
anonymously on 0800 555 111.
