The Galleries recycles to help Wigan & Leigh Hospice
Thursday 10th January, 2013

The Galleries Shopping Centre has launched a printer cartridge recycling scheme for its retailers.

The shopping centre has launched the recycling scheme in conjunction with local company Waterloo Business Management. The Galleries invited all its retailers to dispose their used printer cartridges of any make or size in the printer cartridge recycling facility. All monies raised from the recycled cartridges are donated to Wigan & Leigh Hospice.

Richard Paxton, centre director of The Galleries commented “The Galleries are proud supporters of Wigan & Leigh Hospice and by providing this recycling service for our retailers, we can also support the hospice at the same time. Currently 15% of the 65million printer cartridges sold each year are recycled or reused and by introducing the same we can help increase this figure.”

According to the Recycling Factory website, up to 3 pints of oil are used in the manufacture of a new printer cartridge, recycled cartridges cost up to 65% less than original branded cartridges, also the plastic contained within the cases can take up to 1,000 years to decompose.

Waterloo Business Management take all desktop laser and fax toners and sort which can be sold or recycled in their unique cartridge sustainability program which recycles the broken and unusable cartridges using state of the art processing equipment, saving the planet 9Kg of CO2e per cartridge.

Alan Baron, Hospice Chief Executive says, “We would like to express our sincere appreciation to The Galleries for their very kind support. We respectfully ask centre retailers to support them in this initiative.”
