A Happy New Year for community focal point
The new year is off to a good start for a popular community focal point serving the Highfield and Winstanley community.
A £3,000 contribution from Brighter Borough Funding by Cllrs Clive Morgan, Rona Winkworth and Paul Kenny has assisted in securing a refurbishment of St Matthews Parish Hall at a total scheme cost of £7,500.
The refurbishment is intended to enhance the Parish Hall’s position as a venue to attract events and the Winstanley Ward Councillor’s joined Church representatives today to celebrate the completion of the works.
Mr Jeff McCann, Church Warden said:
“St Matthew Parish Hall is a vital part of the Highfield Community and is used on a daily basis by the local community, whether to have a social drink or to watch the cricket in the summer months, or to hire the hall for their special birthday, wedding or christening. The hall is also hired out on a regular basis by local charitable organisations to hold fund raising events. We have always insisted on maintaining the facility and in these difficult economic times, like every other organisation, its been 'challenging' to carry out refurbishment works and we are extremely grateful for the financial support we have received from our local councillors.”
Cllr Clive Morgan said:
“The Parish Hall is a much loved and valued part of community life and as ward councillors we were very happy to provide support from Brighter Borough Funds to assist this refurbishment project which we are sure will support the Diocese in maintaining the attractiveness of the Parish Hall as a venue for those special occasions.”
