|Deadline approaches for primary school place submissions
It’s a landmark moment in the life of any young child – their first day at primary school.
So to avoid disappointment, mums and dads across Wigan Borough are being urged to apply now for their child’s place at primary school as the deadline for applying for a school place is fast approaching.
Parents must apply before 15th January 2013 to find out mid April which school their child will be attending in September. Parents who apply after the closing date will only find out which school their child will be offered a place at much later.
Every child living in Wigan borough who turns four between 1st September 2012 and 31st August 2013 must now apply for a place through Wigan Council, even if the child’s name has already been registered with an individual school or they have an older brother or sister already at school.
Parents can apply online by simply registering, giving their three preferred schools in priority order and submitting the application. The closing date for applications is January 15th 2013. Anyone applying after this date will be considered to have applied “late” and will be less likely to get a place at one of their preferred schools.
Cllr Sue Loudon, Wigan Council’s cabinet member for children and young people, says: “I urge all parents to apply for a place for their child as soon as possible. If you want to get your child into primary school, it’s absolutely essential you apply now.
“The online application service is simple and easy to use. But paper application forms are available too. This is something it really is unwise to put off. When a child goes to school it’s a big change for a family.”
