Bloomin’ well thank you
Monday 12th November, 2012

The green-fingered champions of Wigan Borough will be attending a special “thank you” event at the Town Hall tomorrow to celebrate their success in the country’s most prestigious horticulture competition.

Residents who took part in Wigan Borough in Bloom have been invited to a reception where senior councillors will offer their thanks. The borough has enjoyed unprecedented success in the “in bloom” competitions, run by the Royal Horticultural Society.

Wigan Borough was nominated for a gold prize in the “Large City” category at the Britain in Bloom finals in October. The borough’s entry was awarded a silver gilt. And in the regional competition, North West in Bloom, Wigan Borough picked up a record 23 prizes.

Cllr Kevin Anderson, cabinet portfolio holder for the environment and communities, says: “It’s been a remarkable year for Wigan Borough. Hundreds of people have dedicated their own time to making where they live look greener.

“Their success has been recognised nationally. Now we want to toast their achievements – and thank them for their efforts – at what promises to be a terrific event at the Town Hall.”
