|Rugby league legend Lockyer in Leigh
One of the biggest names in international rugby league will be in Leigh as excitement builds ahead of the 2013 World Cup.
Australian legend Darren Lockyer is coming to the town for a special event at Leigh Sports Village. His arrival coincides with the release on general sale of tickets for the World Cup with a year to go before the competition begins.
Darren is one of the most decorated players in Australian rugby league and considered an all-time great of the sport. He captained his club, his state and his country, scoring a record number of points for his club side Brisbane Broncos.
On Thursday 1st November, he will be the star guest at a rugby clinic in Leigh, where lucky young players will be put through their paces by one of the gameís greats. After that, Darren will be the centre of attention at a special ďAudience WithÖĒ event at Leigh Sports Village.
The venue is one of two in Wigan Borough hosting games during the Rugby League World Cup 2013. The group game between Tonga and the Cook Islands will be held in Leigh while the DW Stadium in Wigan will host one of the quarter final matches. The World Cup will be the biggest team sport event held in the UK next year. It kicks-off on Saturday 26th October 2013.
