Wigan Town Centre bosses have announced that the Rugby League World Cup Trophy will be presented on stage at the town’s Christmas Light Switch on Event on Thursday 15 November!

After the town’s Christmas light switch on event finishes at 7.30pm, fans will then be offered the opportunity to have their photos taken alongside the trophy where it will be displayed in the Grand Arcade shopping centre. The Rugby League World Cup trophy is 61cm high, silver plated originally cost 8million francs to make and is currently on tour as part of the count down to Rugby League World Cup 2013.

“It is an honour to bring the fabulous trophy to our town for an evening! It’s such a tribute to Wigan’s Rugby League history”

The towns Christmas light switch on event which launches late night shopping in the town takes place in Market Place between 4 and 7.30pm on Thursday 15 November. Event organisers have promised an action packed evening, offering fabulous free entertainment for the young and old, with a fabulous selection of acts including: Olivia Archbold, One Voice, Bon Bonz local singer Zoe Unsworth, Boomin and a fantastic star attraction, details to be announced shortly! The evening will be hosted by radio presenter Danny Bee along with our local favourite ex Big Brother housemate Luke Marsden.

Santa and his team of reindeer lead a huge parade through the town on Sunday 18 November. The parade leaves Mesnes Park at 1pm, travelling via Mesnes Road, turning right onto Standishgate, arriving in Market Place at 1.30pm. Children can then meet Santa and his reindeers in Market Place and will be entertained by the free performers until 4.30pm.
