|A charity evening with the Mayor
You are cordially invited…
It’ll soon be time for the borough’s first citizen to get ready for this year’s Mayoral Charity Reception and Dance. Cllr Myra Whiteside will be wearing the mayoral robes and her guests will be in formal black tie evening attire. And you could be joining them.
Each year, the Mayor of Wigan nominates a local cause to support as their charity. This year, Cllr Whiteside selected Wigan and Leigh Pensioners’ Link, which helps older people to stay independent and active. The Mayor’s Charity Fund has already raised over £5,500 for this cause, and the annual reception and dance is set to boost that even more.
“It’s a formal occasion,” says Cllr Whiteside, “but also a wonderful evening with excellent food and entertainment with the great and the good as well as a chance to show support for an excellent charity. I would be delighted to see you.”
The venue is Haigh Hall and the event is on Friday 19th October.
The Mayoral Reception traditionally begins with a guard of honour before drinks, and there’s a toastmaster, pianist and a raffle. After the four course meal, there’s dancing until 12.30am. The price is £35 per person.
