|Family issue tribute to man killed in collision in Wigan on Sunday
The family of a man who died in a collision in Appley Bridge on Sunday has paid tribute to him.
The collision happened at around 12.45am on Back Lane in Appley Bridge, Wigan on Sunday 30 September 2012.
The victim has been named as Steven Daniel James, aged 25 and from the Leigh area.
Steven was driving a red Honda coupe along Back Lane towards its junction with Skull House Lane, when the car collided with a stationary private-hire minibus, which was parked outside an address as passengers were being dropped off.
Paramedics attended but Steven was found to have suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
No one else was injured during the collision, but the driver of the minibus was treated for shock.
Steven’s family has paid the following tribute. They said: “Our beloved son Steven was taken from us in a horrific car accident at just 25 years old.
“Unless you were there yourself, you cannot even come close to imagining the hurt that we are going through.
“If you knew him, you would know how intelligent and funny he was. If you didn't know him, you would have clicked with him instantly when you met him – he was gregarious and could talk to anyone about anything.
“He threw himself into anything he set his mind to. He was an accomplished web designer and a genius with electronics. His brain was always running at 110%, with ideas way ahead of the time.
“Even as a teenager, he came up with ideas for things which are only just appearing on the market and he was destined to be a success in life as a result, except that he was tragically taken from us before he could realise his full potential. What a senseless waste of a promising life."
Police Constable Mark Potter from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our thoughts and condolences go out to Steven’s family and our officers are supporting them as best we can at this tragic time.
“If anyone was around the Back Lane or surrounding area of Appley Bridge in the lead up to 12.45am on Sunday and witnessed this collision, then please get in touch with us.
“We are trying to establish the full circumstances surrounding Sunday morning’s collision in which Steven was killed, and are keen to hear from anyone with any details that can assist our investigation.”
