Fire incident in Wigan
Monday 10th September, 2012

A woman has been critically injured following a fire incident in Wigan.

Shortly after 9pm on Sunday 9 September 2012, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service called police to a flat on Redbrook Road, Ince, following reports of a fire.

Two people, a man and a woman have suffered burns and the woman is in a critical condition.

The fire service is at the scene to make the area safe and residents from around half a dozen surrounding flats have been evacuated.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing arson with intent to endanger life and he remains in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Howard Millington said: "We are keen to stress that we are at the very early stages in our inquiries and we are keeping an open mind as to what has happened.

"The full details are not clear and I therefore do not want members of the public to think they do not need to tell us what they know because we have made an arrest.

"I would therefore ask that any witnesses, or anyone with any information, calls police as soon as possible."

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Further details will be released in due course.
