Pub landlord attacked
Thursday 6th September, 2012

A pub landlord was attacked after trying to stop an argument in Wigan.

At around 1am on Thursday 6 September 2012, police were called to the Swan Hotel, Atherton Road, Hindley Green following reports of an assault.

Officers arrived and were told the 43-year-old landlord had attempted to stop an argument between two customers.

As he did this, he was assaulted and stamped on before the men drove off in a blue Ford Fiesta with a white chequered pattern.

He suffered injuries to the body and is in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

One man is described as being white male, in his early 20s, 5ft 8in tall, of medium build, had a shaved head and a Chinese symbol tattoo on his neck.

The second man is described as being white with tanned skin, in his 40s or 50s, had dark hair that was greying and of medium build.

Detective Inspector Jon Keeley from Wigan CID said: “This was a completely unprovoked attack on a man who was simply trying to stop an argument and prevent someone from being hurt. Instead, the men turned their attentions on him and savagely attacked him.

“I would ask anyone who may have been in the area at the time and witnessed the assault or saw the car drive off, to contact police.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 5307 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
