|Edible sand art at The Galleries 2012 free summer beach!
The Galleries Free Summer Beach is providing children with Free Edible Sand Art sessions this Wednesday between 12noon and 3pm! Children pick flavored sherbet colours from a large selection and squeeze the sherbet into tubes laying each colour to create their very own unique sherbet sand art designs!
The weather here hasn’t been too summery, however, that hasn’t dampened the spirits of the people of Wigan, who have been heading to the beach at The Galleries shopping centre in their thousands! The 2012 Galleries Summer Beach is now in its 4th week and has seen over 6,000 people young and old enjoy themselves on it, with free activities such as; a beach party, limbo competitions, face painting, a 8 meter high climbing wall, cup cake workshops, punch and judy shows, sand castle building competitions and even donkey rides too!
Richard Paxton, centre director of The Galleries commented:
“The Galleries 2012 Free Award Winning Summer Beach has been a huge success, providing our shoppers young and old with free family fun during the summer holidays. The weekly Wednesday activities and Free Fun Fridays have once again been hugely popular attracting crowds of shoppers.
This year we ‘ve used Facebook and Twitter to invite people to visit and have fun, but most importantly, to ‘shop local’ in Wigan. With 10 tonnes of sand, palm trees, deckchairs and decking, The Galleries Summer Beach is the perfect way to enjoy your visit to Wigan.”
If you haven’t visited the beach yet, you’ve still got a few week before it closes for winter on Sunday 2 September. The Galleries Summer Beach is free to visit and is open daily from 10am and 5pm.
