Residents in Pemberton are being urged to keep their properties more secure after night-time patrols found 27 ground floor windows left open.
Police ran the patrols in Hawkley Hall from Friday 17 to Sunday 19 August, and focused on this area due to the high number of homes there.
On Friday and Saturday night 27 residents were woken by officers and advised not to make it so easy for criminals to gain access.
Inspector Phil James of the Pemberton Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) said: “Most residents responded positively when we knocked on their doors, and understood what we were doing when we told them that items such as laptops, phones and wallets could easily have been removed.
“We understand that people want to stay cool when the weather is warm and close, but leaving ground floor windows open through the night is an absolute gift for thieves, so residents should always check them before going to bed.”
